SPEA Flying Probe Test Services

Boundary Scan

Test Coach is pleased to introduce our new SPEA Flying Probe Test Services. In a continuous effort to provide our customers with comprehensive test services, Test Coach conducted a stringent review of flying probe tester options in 2005 and chose to acquire the SPEA 4040 Flying Probe Test System for its superior technology, accuracy, flexibility and growing user base.

Why SPEA?

  • SPEA utilizes magnetic suspension linear motors with air bearing to maximize accuracy, repeatability and speed.
  • 4 flying probes and 248 fixed probes.
  • Large maximum board size fits up to 27" x 24" boards, with shuttle loading option.
  • Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) and fixed electroscan capabilities.
  • High fault detection.

Test Coach Services Include:

  • DFT Analysis - Guidelines
  • Quick Test Program Development
  • Prototype and Production Board Testing
  • Combination of flying probe and boundary scan test utilizing GÖPEL Boundary Scan.

When is Flying Probe Test appropriate?

  • Best for testing of prototype boards and small production runs, low volume boards, and products with short life cycles.
  • When quick program development and testing turnaround times are required.
  • When a low cost, good fault coverage test is necessary. Flying probe has no traditional bed of nails fixture costs and therefore minimizes costs for design changes and re-spins to boards.

Items required for quoting and project commencement include:

  • CAD file
  • Schematic
  • BOM
  • Gerbers
  • Drawings (if available)Schematic
  • Bare board (if available)
  • Gold loaded board for debug

Pricing for SPEA projects are based on the following:

  • Total nets and solder joints on a board
  • One or two-sided probing
  • Number of Electroscans for IC's and connectors
  • Optional powered up testing
  • Number of different component types
  • Single board or panel
  • Level of coverage desired
